Fearless Fundraiser Swims with Sharks for Local Cancer Research
We supported a number of charities last year, not least through our Thirsty Thursday networking event in Lancaster where we invite a local charity to come in and showcase the work that they do with a fundraising raffle at the end of the night.
Whilst we will continue to do that, we decided to nominate a charity which we could support throughout 2024.
Rather than select one, the Executive Team asked the staff to put forward nominations and gave everyone a chance to vote for their choice.
This resulted in North West Cancer Research being chosen as our nominated charity.
We are exploring how we can help with their fund-raising, but our Protection Specialist Dan Riding spotted an opportunity to get involved early with their shark dive.
This is Dan’s story…
“Cancer has been something that has affected my life in many ways since being a young lad. Losing one of my best friends at 18, to it taking my Grandad in his early 70’s and now at 38 years old myself knowing people around my age with cancers; it affects my life in the same way it always has by making me feel helpless towards those who suffer from it, whether close to me or not, for which I can do very little. This opportunity allows me to fight back, in however much I can raise, to make that fight possible.
The firm I work for, Markland Hill Wealth, has selected North West Cancer Research as our charity of the year to support, and I was keen to hear about the various challenges that I could get involved with…
I’m taking on a SHARK DIVE in aid of North West Cancer Research, a local Charity supporting cancer research right here in our region, focussing on the cancers that affect us most in the North West and North Wales.
Support me as I get up close and cage-free with Europe’s largest collection of sharks and raise funds for life-saving, local research.”
Dan has successfully completed the dive and at the time of writing had raised over £1,000 but it’s not too late to make a donation to recognise his efforts and raise money for this worthy cause.
